This year’s guest artist, John Bailey, will open the fair with a solo recital on Friday evening, October 29 at Wilmot Recital Hall, Nazareth College. He will coach chamber ensembles, and conduct workshops and flute choirs the next day.
Dr. Bailey is Larson Professor of Flute and a member of the Moran Woodwind Quintet at the
University of Nebraska-Lincoln School of Music. He is principal flute with the Lincoln Symphony, with which he has appeared as concerto soloist on numerous occasions. With the Moran Woodwind Quintet he has toured throughout the Midwest and released a series of recordings on the Crystal label. He has conducted the International Flute Orchestra on tour in various countries across Europe. He is a past president of the NFA, and program chair for the Washington, D.C. convention in 2002.
Saturday’s fair events at Pittsford Sutherland High School comprise a full roster of entertaining and interesting activities for flutists of all ages. This year’s focus will be on the chamber ensemble. Ensembles featuring flute are encouraged to apply to receive coaching by Dr. Bailey. Please contact Alex Barbato (abarbat2@naz.edu) for more information.
Dr. Bailey will also conduct a flute choir reading session. The fair also will include favorite recurring events like the flute performance competition, the high school piccolo performance competition, mini-lessons, winners’ recital, and, of course, vendor exhibits, the RFA Boutique and a very special auction. Because it’s Halloween, don’t be surprised if a few unexpected guests (or ghosts!) show up! Bring your flute, your friends, and feel free to wear your favorite costume. It will all be part of the fun.
